One of the first anti-war films in history, Maudite soit la guerre (War is Hell) was made in 1914, shortly before the outbreak of the First World War. Austrian composer Olga Neuwirth composed the music for this silent movie by the Belgian director, Alfred Machin, under commission from Ensemble 2E2M, who premiered the work in Paris in November 2014. This Australian-debut performance by Argonaut was a chance to hear an important composer rarely performed in our region, now available to you for free here on our bandcamp archive page.
